This month's Issue - ISC West Show Summary!
* Trends and Observations
* New Products by Vendor
Several Vendors such as GYYR, Sanyo, Pelco,
Dedicated Micros and Impac seem to be
directing their product lines to an RS-485 based platform.
The trend seems to be to move away from low end
Matrix's by means of a RS-485 Loops. These loops allow each
device to have an address and the device can be controlled
from a stand-alone keypad. Coax's are still homerun but
a two-conductor wire can be daisy chained from device to
device. VCR's and multiplexers can now be located remotely
and controlled from the keypad. Typically, the systems can
have up to 256 units in the loop. There are distance
limitations to the loop length. Be on the look out for
this architecture in the future.
I was amazed at the show to see 50+ camera manufactures.
Most of the new companies seemed to be offering Korean
and Taiwanese product, most of it seemed to look the same.
A truly dizzying array of unknown camera sellers. I
wonder how many of them will be around to honor the
warranties they are offering.
There was no shortage of digital recording companies.
A rough count put the number of options at over 25.
I must admit I did not have time to look at
them all but the ones that stuck out to me were Image
Vault and 3 R. Image Vault has a simple architecture and
is priced very reasonably(This unit will be featured in next
month's issue, or see it at www.directlvs.com under time
lapse recorders). 3R had some great features,
and an unusually small file size that would let a smaller
hard drive store more images. I will be looking at this
unit in more detail in the next couple of months. One
thing is for sure, the number of digital units on the
market is increasing and the prices are coming down.
The color age is here! If ever you thought color was too
expensive you should take a look at it again! The prices
on all color gear fell incredibly last year on everything
from multiplexers to cameras to recorders. I would
certainly suggest taking another look.
Another type of product that has many new players of all
sorts is the phone line transmission group. Many new
companies using both phone line, the internet and LAN and
WAN networks to transfer images. I will have more details
on these devices next month.

Computar
Computar has something the industry has needed for
awhile, the PSM-01 Service Monitor with case. The unit
is a color 2.5" TFT Screen. The unit operates of 6AA
batteries, has color and brightness controls. The price
on this unit is $308.00.
Computar has come out with a new name for their cameras.
The new name is "Ganz"; I have no idea how they arrived at
this name nor did anyone in their booth at the show. FYI
:::::::::::::::::::::::::
Elmo
Elmo is coming out with a new 20" Monitor which they showed
at the show. The model number is the 2002E and it will
have audio. It is do into the states in a couple of
months, no prices yet.
::::::::::::::::::::::
EMI
EMI has two neat new products. The first is a 19" rack in
a metal cabinet with a locking front door. The unit is
then mounted to a wall. The second unit is a snubnose
Magnum housing, this unit is 10" long versus the
Current 14" unit.
:::::::::::::::::::::
GYYR
GYYR has two really new products.
The first is the Tango, which is a video transmission
product. The unit will transmit images over your
existing network, either LAN or WAN through its ethernet
port. It can also transmit over Pots (Plain old telephone
signal) lines with the addition of a modem. It also can
send signals over the internet but that gets complicated.
This unit uses software on the receive end which is shipped
with the transmitter. This offers significant savings
over the Fastrans system were you needed a Fastrans at
each end of the system. Now the software can decompress
the signal. The software runs on any windows machine.
Cost of this unit is $1,535.00. It is rumored that this
unit will have control functions over other GYYR products
in the future. Bye Bye Multilink!?
The second new product from GYYR is the Quarterback which
is GYYR's RS-485 controller as mentioned in the trend
section above. This unit will control the GYYR Vortex
domes and their Multiplexers. The VCR's can be added
into the control loop by the mux's communicating via
RS-232. GYYR is coming out with a dongle, which will
let the older decks be RS-232 compatible. Cost of the
Quarterback is $775.00.
:::::::::::::::::::::
Ikegami
Ikegami is coming out with three new cameras over the next
several months.
ICD-34 Black and White Chip Camera which will be replacing
the ICD-33. The camera will have twenty more lines of
horizontal resolution at 400 lines. The camera will have
a minimum illumination specification of .1 Lux Vs. the
ICD-33's .2 Lux. A better camera for I am told less
Money. No exact number yet, set to arrive late May to
Early June.
ICD-47 High Resolution 570 Lines, Low Light .02Lux with
much better IR sensitivity. Arrival date August. No word
on price yet.
ICD-703W Wide Dynamic Range Color Camera, 480 Lines of
resolution, minimum illumination 2 Lux. Arrival date
August. No word on price yet.
::::::::::::::::::::
Impac
Like a lot of companies Impac has a new RS-485 controller.
The part number on the controller is CBR-KB.
It controls Kalatel Domes and Impac multiplexers at the
moment. Impac is working on expanding the types of domes
with which they can interface. They can control RS-232
Compatible VCR's with the controllers via the mux's.
Impac also introduced a series of Digital combo units.
These units are multiplexers with hard drives built into
them. The units look very similar to their multiplexers
and are less intimidating then some of the other computer
based digital recorders. Three models are currently
available, please see below.
DVMR-16CD 16 Channel Color Duplex
DVMR-16CS 16 Channel Color Simplex
DVMR-4CS 4 Channel Color Simplex
Definitely a different approach but very user friendly.
::::::::::::::::
Panasonic
Not a lot new in the Panasonic booth at this show. The
main items appeared to be a couple of new covert cameras
that should show up in June. The first one is the WV-CF420
which is a covert smoke detector camera. The second is
the WV-CF400 which is a covert PIR Camera. They looked
great, no word on prices yet.
Panasonic also is introducing a new series of color
monitors. These units will not be cross-over products
from another division as in the past. These monitors are
also scheduled to arrive this summer.
:::::::::::::::
Sanyo
Sanyo has a new line of Time Lapse VCR's .
All the new units have Shuttle Search as well as
improved tape-handling functions. Below please
find the new units.
SRT-6000 24HR Real Time $626.00
SRT-7072 72HR Deck $683.00
SRT-7168 168HR Deck $741.00
Sanyo is coming with their RS-485 product, which they call
the SSP technology. Their controller is a part number
VSP-7000 and it will be available in July. They're current
series of decks(above) are RS-485 compatible. They also
will have a standalone digital color camera the VCC-6974
which will be addressable via the RS-485 in July.
:::::::::::::::
Sony
Sony introduced their new digital recorder at the show the
HSR-1 which is different from most units. The unit
records to a 60 Gigabyte DVT (Digital Video Tape) which
gives them long storage times. The system comes out of
the box with 4 video inputs and can be expanded by
multiples of 4 up to 16 video inputs. List on the unit is
$7,600.00, not sure of our cost yet. I think this unit
will become the core of a systems control unit. (again
possibly the RS-485).
They also showed a new deck the SVO-1330 which is a new
8 HR deck with time and date, salvo controllable. Targeted
to the casino market.
:::::::::::::::
Tamron
Tamron has a great new verifocal lens series, which has
a 5-50MM spread. These lenses are great, especially for
outdoor use. The manual with Iris is 13VM550 and runs
$113.00. The DC Auto Iris version with the prewired square
connection is the 13VG550S and runs $155.00.
:::::::::::::::
Toshiba
Toshiba is introducing a new color camera the IK-634. This
camera is a high resolution color camera 480 lines, with
good low light performance for $249.00.
:::::::::::::::
Videolarm
IPCH-8 - A great new indoor housing with mount. The unit
sells for $51.00.
MV6 - This unit is a 5" Pendent Mount Dome with built in
B&W Camera. Camera has total maneuverability in the
Housing. The cost of the package is $328.00.
KFL13 - This is a flashing light kit, which is designed to
fit on either ACH13 or IPCH-8 housings. This unit is
powered by 24 Volts AC and flashes a red light.
